Basketball

Basketball is a team sport played across men's and women's competitions.  Teams will be required to register a minimum seven (7) and a maximum of twelve (12) players, including no more than three (3) cross accredited players. For teams to avoid a forfeit fine they will be required to field four (4) players at the start of their scheduled game time. 

Basketball is a qualification sport in the men's and women's competitions at the Australian University Games and requires teams to qualify via their regional university games event.

    Competition Format

    Format will include pool and progression matches. Final competition formats will be decided following the close of entries.

    2017 Competition timetable*:

    • Monday 25 September - 10:00am - 6:00pm
    • Tuesday 26 September - 11:00am - 7:00pm
    • Wednesday 27 September - 10:00am - 7:30pm
    • Thursday 28 September - 11:00am - 7:30pm
    • Friday 29 September - 8:30am - 4:30pm

    Australian University Sport (AUS) conducts its competitions under the official playing rules and regulations implemented by the national sporting organisation for that sport. However, AUS events are unique and hence there are often variations that are implemented.

    AUS Basketball Sport Rules - 2017


    Rule Amendment - 21 September 2017

    1. Game time/duration

    • All games will be 4 x 10 minute quarters with 2 minutes between quarters and 5 minutes at half time.
    • Teams are allowed two time outs per half (except in medal matches).
    • The clock will be stopped in the final minute of 2nd quarter and final two minutes of the 4th quarter
    • Medal matches will be played as fully timed games with an additional time out for each team in the final quarter and in any additional periods of play.
    • Shot clocks will be used for all competitions.
